The final section sees you challenge yourself to a circular kayak loop on Coniston Water (no canoe experience or equipment necessary) before you finish this incredible challenge and celebrate your achievements with your medal, a drink on us and a well-deserved bite to eat!

With awards for first, second, and third fastest teams, as well as fastest all-female, mixed, and ‘Golden Oldies’ (teams with a combined age of 200+) and the all-important best team spirit, there’s a reason for everyone to keep pushing right until the very end!

Please note that there will be an obligatory safety briefing the evening before (Friday 17 September), where you will register, be given your start time, a full briefing on everything to expect, as well as an opportunity to meet other teams and ask any burning questions.

Ride Vyking Sportive for Action Medical Research – Yorkshire Cycling

CHANNEL YOUR INNER VYKING
Vykings assemble for this brand new Yorkshire bike ride in the grounds of Gilling Castle where the serene landscape will lull all into a false sense of security ahead of a less than gentle Sunday morning ride out.

This sportive promises a thigh-busting ride that will leave you gasping for breath as you take on 6473ft of gain on the longer route and 2999ft of gain on the shorter route.

Offering up our toughest sportive yet the Vyking charity bike ride takes in some of the most feared climbs in England. Alongside brutal ascents including Boltby Bank, the dreaded Rosedale Chimney will call on you to channel your inner Viking and summon up the power of Odin before attacking this top ten climb. With an average gradient of 13% and a maximum of 33%, it is the joint steepest paved road in England. This universally feared, chain-snapping, vicious, double hairpin stretch may only be 0.8m miles but the only ones amused by its one-in-three gradient will be the grazing sheep you’ll be dodging!

Alongside the brutal climbs, if you have time to look up, the routes offer miles of stunning views across Yorkshire as well as fantastic country lanes and roads through spectacular landscape.

Be a Vyking for the day with Action Medical Research on this charity cycle ride with first-class support throughout the day and help our fight for little lives.
