HQ St Peter’s Square
SK1 1DL

The event that is rapidly becoming a ‘must-do’ early-season sportive. Not many sportives can boast a true town centre start but we have secured the lovely St Peters Square in Stockport to begin this new event. With views and scenery to rival most sportives in the UK Manchester Sheffield Manchester (MSM) – The Stockport Sportive is an absolute belter. Of course, there are climbs and MSM does not disappoint, in fact, the long is one of our toughest rides! Each route has its fair share of elevation gain with the medium and long routes tackling the iconic ‘Snake Pass’.

Each route will have our award-winning food at the feed stations with the long route having a feed at Hillsborough, home of Sheffield Wednesday FC.

If you are ready to take the challenge then don’t delay to enter Edition 2 of Manchester Sheffield Manchester – The Stockport Sportive.

Departing from Murton to the east of the York, you will head toward the historic city, crossing the River Ouse at the Millennium Bridge; then cycling past The Knavesmire, York’s famous racecourse before heading onto some stunning little country roads in the direction of Leeds.

There are 3 route choices, the short at 41 miles, the medium at 72 miles and the long at 100 miles.

The Finish Line will Close at 22:00

Back for another year, the toughest day on a bike there is! Climb 15,000ft over 200 miles whilst chased by the Yorkshire Beast at 12.5mph. When he catches you, it’s game over!

The 2022 HQ will again be Thirsk Race Course. It’s better positioned for Beasted riders as it also serves as feed 3, should you bail out! The facilities are great and it’s more accessible from the A1/ A19 with more local accomodation choices.

We are sticking with the 2021 route, the figure of 8 worked really well. A morning in the Yorkshire Moors, an afternoon and early evening (late for some) in the Dales. Who knows, for 2023 we might change and do the Dales first!

Sector 4 – 5 (Kilnsey to The Dales Bike Centre) is where he’ll get you. 140 miles in the legs and Park Rash followed by Flow Edge, you’ve got to be at the top of your game, there is no blagging it there. Make it to feed 5 (DBC) and “only” Grinton Moor and a ride into Thirsk stand between you and the “I Beat The Beast” wall!

600 people have now Beaten The Beast but many have failed, a very select group have battled and beaten The Beast 3 times! 2022 will no doubt see some try for a 4th crown! Mad/ Brave/ Fearless, call them what you will but you need to be quie a rider to take on The Beast!

Everyone who rides the Beast tells us it’s the toughest Sportive there is, they draw a comparison with other ultra-challenge events and without question, the Beast is the toughest!

A day to remember forever! Enter now and set your goal high for 2022, you will not have a bigger challenge.

Selby Three Swans Sportive – Yorkshire Cycling

Selby 3 Swans, another amazing new event in the Velo29 Calendar!

This Sportive was established originally by Selby Cycling Club, a victim of its own success and a credit to the great job done by the club it rapidly outgrew the capacity of a Club setup so was passed to Yorkshire Cancer Research. Hit by the pandemic, the charity is no longer able to run the event so Velo29 have stepped in to retain what is an important event for Yorkshire Cancer Research and to give you all yet another awesome day out on the bike!

20% of your entry fee (excluding booking fee) will go to Yorkshire Cancer Research, 5% will go to Selby Cycling Club. You are of course welcome to fundraise and donate further to the charity if you wish, we’d love to hear your stories on that.

As always, 3 great routes, feed stops on all of them, brilliant Velo29 signage, our great ride support and of course the friendliest atmosphere you’re likely to encounter!

5 Dales Sportive – Yorkshire Cycling

The 5 Dales Sportive has run under the umbrella of Richmond Cycling Club for the past 12 years. The club has now decided to hand over the event to Velo29 to ensure its longevity as one of the most challenging Sportives in the calendar.

This is in effect for the 2018 event, we’ve moved the date to September which is essential and also avoids a very busy spring calendar, hopefully, the new date offers a late-season challenge in some fine autumnal weather!

In 2014 Richmond CC introduced the Tour de France Special Edition routes which due to their popularity and excellent feedback Velo29 have decided to continue.

With a choice of 5, 4 and 3 Dales tours to enjoy, this is one of the toughest rides there is! The 5 dales, at 190km and 3,500m of ascending, is brutal by anyone’s standards. The routes and scenery are stunning, this is a part of the World not often explored on a bike, we go so far into the Dales that unless well supported in an event such as this, few would brave the challenge!

White Horse Sportive – Yorkshire Cycling

The White Horse is a fine way to end your Sportive Season.

With three distance options, there is something to suit all abilities. From the 26mile short route with one “challenge” climb, the Medium route with some major hills and the long route which tackles both Carlton and White Horse Bank. The routes are all really well designed and though the distances are not overly long there are no sections which are just there to get from A to B. Every mile is on beautiful North Yorkshire country roads with great views, breathtaking views and hardly a car in sight.

As well as the climbs we enjoy some fast and challenging descents and some great sections which are our personnel favourites but hardly known by local riders. The medium and long enjoy a brilliant 15mile section from the White Horse to Osmotherley, roads you won’t know well but will do soon!

Everyone arrives back at the HQ with a real buzz, as we twist through the empty lanes with only cyclists in sight we’ll be lost in what a wonderful route the White Horse is and how enjoyable riding these roads in a Velo29 Event really can be.
