SEA to SEA – (c2c) Coast to Coast in a Day – Lakes & Yorkshire Cycling

An iconic route cycled by hundreds of people every year, usually over 4 or 5 days. But how about doing it in just 1 day?

A stunning 150 mile with 4500m of ascent road ride from the mountainous Western Lake District, through the Yorkshire Dales, across the flat Vale of York and finally the Northern Valleys of the North York Moors, finishing by the sea in Whitby.

What better way to tick off this iconic cycle than by doing it in one day?

Daffodils Sportive – Yorkshire Cycling

The Daffodils Sportive was named after the World famous daffodils of Farndale, an area the route passes through. The event started in 2013 when we wanted to add a new Sportive to the Velo29 Calendar which incorporated some of our favourite roads. The routes have a challenge for all abilities without being too hard (it is only March after all) and like the Velo29 events of The White Horse & Whitby Sportive; focuses around a famous North East landmark.

The Daffodils offers something to all abilities of rider and the routes are stunning!

All 3 distances leave Thirsk and head straight onto quiet country lanes, small villages and some beautiful North Yorkshire scenery.

The routes are not super challenging so lots of the groups will stay together, which is a great way to meet new cycling friends.

As always we’ve found some really interesting roads. The Long route offers the most serious challenge and Blakey Bank will not disappoint those looking for a test!

It’s a lovely ride that brings people back year after year. For a couple of years we have had to operate the Farndale feed station in a field…BUT not this year, the new building will be finished and we will once again have an indoor feed and facilities.

3 Days in Yorkshire Sportive – Yorkshire Cycling

Without question one of the most amazing experiences available to a Sportive rider!

Ride on the amazing roads of Yorkshire on 4 stages across 3 days in May. We open on Saturday morning, pushed off down the start ramp of a closed road prologue TT! 9km against the clock, streamed live to your friends and family at home.

Back to the lodge for lunch whilst enjoying the highlights video of the TT then we hit a 70km Sprint Sportive road stage on some of the quietest roads you’ve ever ridden on. Dinner is served back at the lodge whilst we enjoy a Q&A on the stage with a pro rider.

Saturday takes us on a 100km roads stage with a closed road Mountain Top finish! We time you up the climb to declare a QOM and KOM! Again enjoy dinner back at the lodge and a Q&A with a Cycling Celebrity.

Sunday we complete our Tour of Yorkshire with a 160km road stage. Some incredible roads and big hills before we speed across the finish line and take to the stage for one of the best medals you’ll ever receive.

The 2021 edition of the event was the first and every rider declared it the best thing on a bike they had ever done! We had competitive riders, regular sportive riders, cycling fans who crave such an experience and people just wanting to have an amazing and challenging event on a bike. The family experience at the glamping was really special, the area has a lot to offer whilst the riders are out on the ride.

Only 200 places available for the 2022 event, book soon as it will sell out.

Tour of the Peak Sportive – Yorkshire Cycling

This classic sportive, named after and on the same route as the original Tour of the Peak road race, which ran from 1943 through to 2005. Follow in the wheel tracks of some of the top original British bike racers that have graced these roads, Malcolm Elliot, Mark Lovatt, John Tanner, Chris Lillywhite and Matt Stephens to name just a few.

Have you got what it takes to attempt this challenging ride? The long route is probably one of the toughest challenges that can be done at 115 Miles and over 10,000ft of climbing, it certainly isn’t to be underestimated! A little more tame but still with the killer mile of Winnats Pass, the medium route is 62 miles but still manages to squeeze in over 5000ft of climbing, a great starting point, if you are looking for a challenge and the long route, is just too much!

Both routes start from Bakewell Showground, giving you beautiful surroundings to start and finish your day, if you get chance, call in and pick up a Bakewell Pudding, not to be missed! We certainly did when we last visited.

A gentle spin to start you off before hitting the first ascent of the day just after Ashford will give you a taste of what’s to come, hills, hills and more hills! Both routes are fairly relentless giving you most of the top climbs in the Peak District! Winnats Pass sneaks up on you after the beautiful village of Castleton, a tough Killer Mile Challenge awaits on a fully closed road.

The medium route splits from the long route at the top of Winnats Pass if it’s been too much so far, the choice is yours, cut out 55 miles and the Holme Moss Climb? Make your choice wisely! Even on the medium route you still have the Cat and Fiddle to look forward to after the routes rejoin before heading back to Bakewell.

The long ride, the ride of heroes, can you manage three major climbs in one day, Winnats Pass, Holme Moss and the Cat and Fiddle? Only the brave should choose this route, it’s certainly not for the faint-hearted.

Back at Bakewell, we will have a variety of food, hot drinks and beer for those needing a stiff drink after possibly the most challenging ride around.

Lincoln 262 Sportive – York – Yorkshire Cycling

Lincoln 262

Lincoln 262 is a massive challenge! We wanted to offer a Super Challenge Sportive to riders as part of their Beast prep but also to offer a different day out in the ultra distance area of Sportive riding.

We’ve made the route as flat as possible but managed to retain what you’d expect from Velo29, fun, diverse, scenic and memorable. You’ll depart York at 6am and must hit cutoff times at the 5 feeds to stay in the game, miss the cutoff and it’s bus back for you!
